Print of the speeches (3 January, Wolfe Society Bicentenary Dinner, Savoy Hotel, London), including a speech by WSC, entitled "Canada" on changes in the constitution of the Empire and Canada's part in the Empire. Also includes speeches by Edward, Prince of Wales [later Edward VIII, then Edward, Duke of Windsor], Sir Charles Warde, President of the society, Peter Larkin, High Commissioner for Canada, 7th Lord Stanhope, Vice-President of the society, and a telegram from MacKenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada. Speech notes for WSC's speech (4 February, Conservative and Unionist Association Meeting, Free Trade Hall, Manchester), entitled "The Financial and Political Situations" on the Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin's mandate, the General Strike, the strength of the economy despite strikes, the decline of the Liberal Party, ruinous party politics of Labour and the Trade Unions, and the new Trade Union laws. Source material includes: a copy of the Contemporary Review (1927), with an article by William Wedgwood Benn [later 1st Lord Stansgate, Liberal MP for Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland], "The Government: Its Record and Prospects"; an extract from the Nation and Athenaeum on "The New Industrial Revolution" (1926); notes on the profitable and depressed areas of industry.
