CHAR 28/19/1-2 Letter from WSC ([Versailles, France]) to "Mummy" [Lady Randolph Churchill] describing his journey to France, the soldiers he had seen in Versailles and a visit to the "Bon Marche" in Paris. He says that he would like to visit Baron [Moritz] Hirsch and that he almost wrote a letter which would have been "painful" to her due to his "fatigue, the passage, the strange food, the cold, home sickness..." CHAR 28/19/7 Letter from WSC (Continental Hotel, Milan [Italy]) to "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] replying to his letter [see CHAR 1/2/66-68]. WSC says that he will try and alter his father's poor opinion of him through his work and conduct at Sandhurst and describes Milan. 14 Aug [1893]
CHAR 28/19/8-9 Letter from WSC (Hotel Continental, Milan [Italy]) to "Mama" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he expresses his disappointment at [Lord Randolph Churchill's] displeasure with him over his results in the [entrance] examination [for Sandhurst] after his hard work. CHAR 28/19/10 Letter from WSC (Hotel Couronne & Poste [?Brigue, Switzerland]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he is looking forward to going to Sandhurst and that his French is impressive, objects to her comment that he has written "a scrap" [short letter] to "Grandmamma" [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough], expresses his determination to work hard at Sandhurst and asks her to suggest to [Lord Randolph Churchill] that he should be given an allowance. 23 Aug 1893
CHAR 28/19/11 Letter from WSC (50 Grosvenor Square [London]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] asking her to persuade "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] to give him an allowance and saying that he has been waiting for a letter from his father, who he hopes will be pleased that he [WSC] has got into the infantry at Sandhurst. 30 Aug [1893]

CHAR 28/19/13-15 Letter from WSC ([Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey] on the notepaper of 15 Grosvenor Square) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that her letter had made him unhappy and explains that he makes a considerable effort over his letters to "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill]. He also discusses his father's refusal to grant him permission to play polo, describes an accident suffered by his riding companion and comments on his own physical feebleness. 17 Sep [1893]
CHAR 28/19/16-17 Letter from WSC ([Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey] on the notepaper of 50 Grosvenor Square) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he has written to "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] and says that her letter made him unhappy. He informs her that he will have his photograph taken and comments "you don't know how magnificent I look - perfectly immense I assure you", complains about a boil on his face and discusses arrangements for paying his bills on time. 20 Sep [1893]
CHAR 28/19/18-19 Letter from WSC ([Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey] on the notepaper of 50 Grosvenor Square) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he has visited the surgeon about his face, describes that plainness of the food, an adjutants' parade and a visit from "Jack" [John S Churchill] and reports that he has not been late while he has been at Sandhurst. 28 Sep [1893]
CHAR 28/19/20-21 Letter from WSC (Royal Military College, Yorktown, Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he reports that he has received a "nice letter" from "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] and discusses arrangements to stay with her in London, commenting that his friends have "grand fun" at the London Pavilion but he is not given leave because he has not been given permission from his parents. CHAR 28/19/22-23 Letter from WSC (Tring Park, Tring [Hertfordshire]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he describes meetings with "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] and "Grandmamma" [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough], comments on the comfort of the house at Tring, reports that his father has given him permission to take leave and that he [Lord Randolph] intends to "pitch in" to [Herbert] Asquith [later Lord Oxford and Asquith] and seems "far less nervous". 21 Oct [1893]
CHAR 28/19/24-27 Letter from WSC (Royal Military College, Yorktown, Camberley, Surrey) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he discusses his objections to [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough's] intention to dismiss [Elizabeth] Everest. He describes [Elizabeth Everest's] loyalty as a servant and devotion to him and "Jack" [John S Churchill] and the cruel manner in which it is proposed that she be dismissed and argues that she should be allowed to remain at Grosvenor Square for longer and that she should be given a pension. 29 Oct [1893]
CHAR 28/19/27A-27B Letter from WSC (Blenheim Palace) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he discusses arrangements to come to Hindlip [Worcestershire], describes hunting and shooting and his high opinion of "Sunny" [Charles, 9th Duke of Marlborough] and says that he is looking forward to seeing "Polly" [Adela] Hacket. 30 Dec [1893]
CHAR 28/19/28-29 Letter from WSC (50 Grosvenor Square [London]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he does "the model 'son' very well", reports that he will probably accept an invitation from [Samuel, 2nd] Lord Hindlip, and that he and "Jack" [John S Churchill] miss her very much and discusses financial arrangements. 17 Jul [1894]
CHAR 28/19/30-32 Letter from WSC (The Hatch) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] describing a week he spent in London and his social engagements, a visit to the races at Sandown [Surrey] and to Harrow with "Molly" [Adela] Hacket and discussing his planned itinerary for a visit to Switzerland. He comments that he hopes that "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] will not be angry that he would like to join the cavalry. 22 Jul [1894]
CHAR 28/19/33-34 Letter from WSC (Hotel Brittanique, Bruxelles [Brussels, Belgium] on the notepaper of 50 Grosvenor Square) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] describing his journey, Count [Charles] Kinsky's kindness to "Jack" [John S Churchill] and himself and his impressions of Brussels.
