Scope/content:

Letter from Lord Knollys [Private Secretary to King George V] (Buckingham Palace) to WSC acknowledging receipt of his letter [see CHAR 12/9/41]. He explains that the King was displeased at WSC's apparent support of the "Right to Work" Bill, and comparison between tramps and "idlers and wastrels at the other end of the social scale"; and feels that this expression of WSC's personal feelings was inappropriate. He adds that this was also the view of King Edward VII, and that he could show WSC examples of such letters by his predecessors if necessary. Signed manuscript.
